Village of Riverdale, Northeast Storm Relief Sewer Project

More Project Details

Hancock Engineering completed Phase I, II, and III engineering services for the Village of Riverdale’s Northeast Storm Relief Sewer Project. The proposed improvements span the entire northeast region of Riverdale with over 8,000 feet of proposed storm sewer.  The work occurred within the boundaries of busy State Street, the elevated METRA Rail Line (Illinois Central Railroad) and the Little Calumet River.

Funds for this improvement were secured with the assistance of our team thru Cook County’s Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program in the amount of approximately 7.6 million dollars.

Construction operations began at the Little Calumet River with the installation of a massive 72” diameter storm sewer outfall. The route involved continuous communications with nearby business owners.  This 72” diameter storm sewer pipe has been installed to depths exceeding fifteen-feet below grade.  In addition to open cutting, a “Jack and Bore” operation was implemented to “push” the 72” diameter pipe beneath the Indiana Harbor Belt Rail Road.
