Hancock Engineering provided Design and Construction Engineering Services for this major roadway reconstruction and watermain improvement project. The project involved the reconstruction of a concrete pavement and the installation of more than a half mile of various sized ductile iron water main pipe. The project included:
- Reconstruction of an 8” Portland Cement Concrete Pavement
- Installation of 2,800 feet of ductile iron water main
- Installation of over 3,000 feet of various sized storm-sewers
- Relocation of existing utilities to prevent conflicts with proposed improvements and to avoid costly delays.
- Creation of a multi-use path along the limits of the improvement
- Coordination with the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad to substantially improve the railroad crossing.
- Directional boring of watermain and casing pipe under the IHB Railroad
- Resident Engineer Coordination with residents and major businesses including: Menard’s, AL Concrete Plant, and Navistar International
The roadway portion of this project was funded with Federal Dollars, but the Watermain was paid for with local funding. Although this project did have several change orders, they were IDOT initiated and the Village did not bear any additional costs. Our engineering fee went unchanged.
