More Project Details

Hancock Engineering provided Design and Construction Engineering Services for this Village funded flood control project. The project was designed to relieve a levee protected area from flooding due from rain events when the Salt Creek raises above the 10-Year water level.  During recent years rain events the residents within this area have seen an increase in the frequency of flooding that occurs due to the creeks water level.  The project was jointly funded by the Village of Brookfield and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District through their Phase II Flood Assistants Program. The project involved the following :

  • Installation of 5,000 GPM pump station, featuring 5 staged pumps to handle runoff from an area directly tributary to the station, and larger pumps to handle upstream sewers that due to high water level in Slat Creek cannot convey flows to the creek and overflow into the area.
  • The installation of 300 feet of 8×7 box culvert constructed under Forest Avenue, a local street, and the excavation of an available undeveloped residential lot to a dry bottom pond create a total of 0.84 ac-ft of storage in the existing developed residential neighborhood.
  • The reconstruction of 500’ of Forest Avenue.
  • Coordination with existing utilities to relocate their lines in conflict with proposed improvements and for the supply of services to the lift station avoiding costly delays.
  • Installation of 85 kW natural gas standby generator
  • Holding twice weekly progress meetings with Village and Contractor.
  • Interacting on a daily basis with residents and coordinating with adjacent school and park district properties to ensure safety of the children and patrons.
  • Distribute weekly updates to the Village Board outlining what has been accomplished and what is planned for the following week.
